During your new patient exam, Dr. Kenneth Vandervoort, DMD and our friendly team will get to know you, understand your goals, and perform a comprehensive evaluation of your dental health.

What to Expect During Your Initial Visit

Our new patient exam is designed to give you a complete picture of your oral health. This allows us to identify potential issues early, make accurate diagnoses, and tailor treatment recommendations to your unique needs.

At your first visit, we will:

• Examine your teeth and gums, checking for cavities and gum disease
• Take and review digital X-rays to detect decay, bone loss, abscesses, cysts, or other underlying conditions
• Perform an oral cancer screening using both visual and tactile evaluation
• Use enhanced oral cancer detection technology (VELscope) for added peace of mind
• Check the stability of any existing restorations such as fillings, crowns, or bridges
• Review all findings and discuss your personalized treatment plan
• In most cases, complete a thorough dental cleaning and polishing at the same visit

The Importance of Dental X-Rays

Many dental conditions are not visible to the naked eye. Digital X-rays help us detect hidden issues such as cavities between teeth, bone loss from gum disease, or early signs of infection. These images provide a valuable baseline for monitoring your oral health over time, ensuring that changes are identified and addressed early.

Your First Appointment

Please plan for approximately 90 minutes for your initial visit. This gives our team time to perform a detailed exam, discuss findings, and answer any questions you may have. If you need to reschedule, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice so that we can accommodate other patients.
